Software Upgrades Apache 1.3.41, PHP 5.2.6 -
Completed (PHP upgrade only, Apache to be completed at a later date)
We always try to provide you with the newest (but stable) versions of
software. In a few weeks we will be upgrading to the latest versions
of PHP and Apache. Those of you currently using PHP need to pay
special attention since the upgrades may 'break' existing code. If
you are not using PHP, the upgrade should be seamless to you, but we
still recommend checking your sites to make certain there are no
problems.
PLEASE review the details below carefully. We will try to provide
test assistance for everyone, but we can't examine/change applications
for individual sites. It is your final responsibility to do the work
necessary to manage the upgrade.
In about two weeks we will be conducting a system wide "test" for
about one hour. All servers will be put on the new version of both
PHP and Apache. This will allow most of you to do a final check to
see if your site is compatible. THIS IS ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT FOR
PEOPLE WHO ARE USING PHP ON THEIR SITES.
Thurs. June 19th:
First Test : 0900-1000 EDT
Second Test: 1500-1600 EDT
All servers permanent upgrade will be on Tuesday, July 1st.
We hope this will support subscribers in all time zones. If you test
in the First window it will also give you an opportunity to make
changes and retest in the second window. The following link will
provide valuable assistance with migrating to the new version of PHP:
http://www.php.net/manual/en/migration5.php
***** NOTE: PHP 5 is NOT fully backward compatible with PHP 4.
Sites may 'break' during the test window. You should be ready to
install an "off-line for upgrade" message on your site during those
time intervals if necessary.
***** NOTE: PhpBB and WordPress users:
To support PHP 5, it may be necessary to upgrade these products to
their latest versions. Our testing will be done using the latest
version of these products. It will be your responsibility to upgrade
these products if necessary.
All servers permanent upgrade will be on Tuesday, July 1st. Check back
here for updates.
